Master Chief Petty Officer Héctor Díaz es un héroe sin reconocimientos. En 1980, se enlistó en la Armada estadounidense. En 1990, se desplegó a bordo del portaaviones USS Eisenhower al Golfo Pérsico. Allí se desempeñó como el jefe de mantenimiento a cargo de 12 aviones F-18. Durante la Guerra del Golfo Pérsico, esos aviones operaban 24 horas al día bombardeando posiciones irakies.
"Preparábamos los aviones para cada misión y cuando regresaban, les reparábamos y los alistábamos para la próxima misión," dijo Díaz.
Cuando uno va a la guerra, siempre es algo no deseado, no importa cual es su herencia cultural", dijo Díaz. "Sin embargo, yo haré lo necesario para defender la bandera norteamericana si es atacada".
